It made me think that there are certainly similarities between planning a trip and planning a business.

For example, the first thing I do before leaving for a trip is to determine my destination.

Where am I?

You can get a map so I know where to go. I usually hop on MapQuest to get directions from my house (where I am now) to my destination (where I go).

I got to thinking … This isexactly what your marketing plan for the company.

What do you think would happen if you decided to start a trip, but I did not know where to go and how to get there? Well, probably lost.

Are you sure you finish but may not be where you want to be.

The same applies to your business.

If you do not first sit down and determine where you want your business … what you want it to look likesay, a year from now, how can you hope to get there?

I would say that you can not reach. Because you do not know where "it" is.

Think about your marketing plan as your roadmap.
